- Kiss Me Kate Orchestra
Kudos to Mr. Flowers and the Sanderson band students who performed in the spring musical Kiss Me Kate! The orchestra did a fabulous job and everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the production. The orchestra was comprised of the following students:

- WCU Honors Band
Percussionists Colin Fernandez, senior and Brandon Fernandez, freshman recently returned from Western Carolina University where they were selected to play with the WCU Honors Band. After auditions, Colin was selected as section leader for the Purple Band which performed under the direction of Rodney Winther who is Professor of Music and Bands at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Brandon was selected to perform on mallets in the Gold Band which performed under the direction of Dr. David Waybright who is Director of band at the University of Florida. Roughly 200 students were selected from 43 high schools in NC, SC, TN and GA.
- Winter Guard International Championships (Percussion)
Colin Fernandez, senior, and Brandon Fernandez, freshman, will be traveling to Dayton, Ohio to compete with the indoor percussion group Constitution at the Winter Guard International Championships on April 19-21. Constitution is a brand-new percussive youth organization committed to innovation and creativity in the indoor percussion arena. The group consists of approximately forty performing members from all over the state of North Carolina. Brandon is the youngest member, Colin is one of 5 seniors from the Raleigh area and the rest are college students through the age of 22. They have been rehearsing every Saturday and Sunday since the month of November and competing at competitions in both NC and SC. The semi-finals and finals will be aired online at http://wgi.dci.org.

- MS Walk Service Project
Kudos to all the "pep band" students who participated in the MS Walk
on Saturday! They did a great job creating music, entertainment, and encouragement for all the walkers, runners, and bikers who came to rest
stop #4. The MS Walk volunteer coordinator made sure to let us know how much their efforts were appreciated! The pep band participants included:

- National Wind Ensemble
Brandon Fernandez, freshman and Colin Fernandez, senior both recently auditioned and were accepted into the 2007 National Wind Ensemble. This group is open to High School and College aged students. They will travel to New York City where they will meet the rest of the students involved and rehearse for one week and then finish the week by performing in Carnegie Hall.
Brandon and Colin are both percussionists in the Sanderson Band Program.
- All State Honors Band
Congratulations to David Williams who made All State Honors Band. He
will attend the clinic and perform with the band in April. This is a
very high honor since only those students who place in the top chairs in
All District are invited to audition. Way to go David!!

- Winter Guard
Congratulations to the Sanderson Winter Guard on their
first competition of the season this past Saturday at West Johnston HS. The Guard's outstanding performance won them
Second place in their class as well as a promotion to a higher class for the rest of the season. Their next
competition will be this Saturday, Feb. 24 at Green Hope HS. Good job and keep up the good work!
January 2007
- Honors
Patrick Short, sophomore trombone, Brandon Fernandez, freshman percussion and Colin Fernandez, senior percussion recently auditioned and were accepted into the UNCG Honors Band. They will attend a 3 day festival which concludes with a concert on the UNCG campus on February 17th. There were over 350 CD's/applications submitted for this event.
Patrick and Brandon will be playing with the Concert Band Grades 9 & 10 with Prof. Scott Teeple, Guest Conductor, who is the Wind Ensemble Conductor, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.
Colin will be playing with the Symphonic Band, Grades 11 & 12, with Dr. Kevin Sedatole, Guest Conductor, who is the Director of Bands, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan
Colin Fernandez, won 1st Place Instrumentalist in the Raleigh Arts Festival sponsored by the Women's Club of Raleigh on January 22, 2007. Colin is a member of the Sanderson Band.
- All-District Band
Congratulations to the following band students who were chosen for All - District Band for the Central NC District.
Selected for the 11 - 12 Wind Ensemble are: Matt Grossman - Bassoon and Colin Fernandez - Snare.
Selected for the 9-10 Wind Ensemble are: Phillip Knorr -Trumpet, Patrick Short - Trombone, David Williams - Tuba, Brandon Fernandez - Mallets.
These students will spend January 26th and 27th at UNC Chapel Hill where they will rehearse with students from all over the Central NC Area. They will then perform their two day accomplishment in a concert on Saturday Evening at UNC at 7pm which is open to the public.
We would also like to recognize our other band members who also auditioned: Scott McFarlane - 1st alternate Euphonium, Joey Truxal - 1st alternate Mallets, Will Coe - 1st Alternate - Saxophone, Matt Tyndall - Alto Saxophone, Garrett George - Alto Saxophone, Bobby Lee -Tenor Saxophone, Sam McFarlane - Mallets, Jesse Rogers - Snare, Trevor Shelton - Snare, Travis Lekich - Trumpet, Nate Hitchings - Trumpet, Sara Beth Wentz - Bass Clarinet, Laura Hasenauer - Clarinet, Maggie Corn -Clarinet Rachel Overby - Flute, Laura Arevalo - flute, and Jessica Grossano - Euphonium.
